Guardian Sculpture — Shelter Sector

Guardian Sculpture — Shelter Sector

Sculpture carved in volcanic basaltic rock using high-hardness lithic tools. Features a nose, arms, headdress and earrings rendered in high relief. It is the tallest sculpture in the ensemble, standing 2.49 m high, 1.41 m maximum width and 55 cm thick.

First described by Sotomayor and Uribe (1987) and later by Professor Llanos (1988). The sculpture faces east, toward the flat terrain where part of the community settlement was located and toward the Granates River canyon. Professor Carlos Sánchez (UNAL, 2023) describes fierce features and paraphernalia typical of the Classic Regional leaders (1–900 AD).
